About Daemian

Growing up on the gorgeous Oregon coast, Daemian has never found himself short for sources of inspiration. His work reflects the influence of his artistic family’s colorful style and the drama of wild Oregon scenery.

“I start with the simplest of materials, wood, canvas and paint. Somewhere along the way a painting becomes more than the sum of its parts. It becomes…..art. My newest series of works involves canvases that are untraditional in shape, not square or rectangle. This gives the paintings a sculptural feel while remaining somewhat two-dimensional. Linseed oil and pigment can reveal a world. Even in an abstract painting, the color choices, the paint handling, combine to create a mood or invoke a memory in the viewer. Texture is also huge part of what I do. I use traditional brushes, but I also use knives, trowels, rags, non-absorbent rollers and other non-traditional tools to help create marks that are unique and interesting. Anything and everything can be a tool for making marks on the canvas.”

Daemian loved art from an early age and by the time he finished high school he had won the Congressional Art Award and a scholarship that helped him continue his study of art as an undergraduate. He moved to San Francisco to attend the Academy of Arts University, where he tuned his skills in Fine Art and graduated in 2005. Since that time he has been represented by several galleries. In 2014, Daemian moved back to the Oregon Coast with his wife and new daughter. When he is not busy in the studio he enjoys bringing artistic flare to the arts of parenting, gardening and entertaining.
